⋆˚࿔ Former Student Work ⋆˚࿔

 Hey guys!!

So, very soon, my group and I will start making our own film opener!!! :D

I'm very excited and I have been watching a lot of film openers that were created by other students.

Here's what I thought about a few of them:

1: Roll Call

This film opener was engaging and made me want to keep watching, while also making me wonder what was going to happen next. The audience is instantly placed in the middle of a conflict, which is a good way of grabbing their attention and keeping them interested. Additionally, the main idea of the film was also easy to grasp, making it easy for the audience to know what the rest of the film would be about. The beginning shot of the police car and the ground-level shot of the person getting out of it also add a sense of mystery and curiosity. I do think, however, that they could have filmed in an area with less bright lighting during the interrogations to really mimic the feel of an interrogation room. I also think they could have incorporated different angles for the interrogations as well. Overall, I thought this opener was pretty good and I really enjoyed it!!!

2: New Everything

This film opener is called "New Everything". I was a bit confused at first because most of the opener is just the main character getting ready for school and I wasn't sure what was going on. However, it was made clear at the end of the opener what the rest of the film would be about. I think the scarce context at the beginning of the opener was an effective way of sparking the audience's curiosity and making them anticipate what would happen next. Although, I do think just a few more subtle clues that hinted at the character's unfamiliarity with his surroundings would have made the opener even better. I also thought the use of diegetic sound when he puts on his headphones was a great touch that contributed to the feeling of a real film opener.

3. Dreamland

This film opener is titled "Dreamland". The camera quality was really good and clear, which made the opener look more professionally made. Additionally, all the different shots and angles were really nicely filmed, one of my favorites being the close ups of the flower petals. I also thought the use of slow-motion and reverse in the editing was used creatively, and really helped to drive the narrative of the opener. The use of the warm hue color filter also aided in clarifying what the opener was trying to portray to the audience. Personally, I don't think they could have done anything better. It was very interesting to watch and I would definitely continue watching if it were a full movie.

4. Dear Lover

This film opener was also very well made and the establishing shots of the scenery in the beginning of the opener helped to set the mood. However, I think if the camera was more static during these shots, it would have made them even better, as they were a bit shaky. One of my favorite parts of the opener is the fade transition to the black screen as the narrator begins to speak in the beginning. I feel like this is seen in a lot of real Hollywood movies and shows, and it adds a nice touch to the opener. I also like how the opener provides the audience with a backstory and ends with the main character ready to tell their story. This helped add suspense and made me want to know the whole story.

5. Dare to Thrill

This opener had some really cool shots. My favorites are the ones that capture the car speeding. Its cool how they were able to film the car in a way that made it seem like it was going extremely fast. I also think the shots were really well captured and they were able to incorporate a number of them. The use of hand-held camera movement was also a great addition and helps to make the audience feel like they are in the scene themselves. The quality of the camera was also very good and clear. Additionally, the title sequence added to the liveliness and suspense of the opener, since it looks like it could be from a game. I don't think this group could have done anything better as well and I really enjoyed watching their opener.

In all, each group did an amazing job!! Watching these openers made me even more excited to start working with my own group to make ours!!

Stay tuned for more! ;)
