⋆˚࿔ Sound Story ⋆˚࿔

Hey guys!!!

Last week, my partner Zadie and I worked on our Sound Story Project.

Here's a bit about the process of creating our project:

So, Zadie and I first had to come up with a concept for our sound story. I think we were both hungry then, so we ended up doing "A Trip to McDonald's". After deciding on our concept, we searched for sounds and music on YouTube, where we were able to find all the car, the McDonald's beeping, the straw, the food wrapper, and the soda fountain sounds. We also needed to come up with a minimum of four sounds to make ourselves on a "foley stage". With a total of six foley sounds, I made the bag, the walking, and the door sounds, while Zadie did the ice dispenser, the receipt, and the pulling out the chair sounds. Then, Zadie and I discussed what words we would use to progress the story without exceeding the word limit, which was seven words. We wrote down the words we wanted to use and made notes on our other ideas. The next step was to begin filming. I just recorded myself walking outside on the sidewalk for the walking sound. One thing I did was drag my feet to mimic the sound I notice my shoes make often when I stop to open a door. I recorded myself opening and closing a door in my house to make the sound of entering the building and the door closing behind me. I ended up using the closet near my front door since it sounded most like the glass doors they have at McDonald's. Next, I recorded grabbing the bag of food. For this sound, I used a wrapper from a pack of paper towels and scrunched it around to mimic that rustling sound. Moreover, Zadie decided she would do the speaking parts and sent me all her videos so that I could begin to edit.

The software I used to edit was Capcut. Since I had used Capcut a lot in the past, the actual editing process was fairly easy for me, however, this particular project took a long time to edit. Figuring out the volumes for each of the sounds was also a bit challenging since I wanted to make sure that none of the sounds were too overpowering. There was also an instance where our video was too short but we fixed this by adding more sounds from YouTube. Furthermore, Zadie helped me with some of the editing and typed the script. We then listened to our project at least a hundred times before deciding it was perfect! Overall, this experience taught me a lot about sound mixing and the amount of sounds that go into producing/enhancing visuals. This project was super fun and working with Zadie was great!!

In the end, we created a video with sounds only, a foley video, and a sound script.

Here's the finished product:
