So a few blogs ago, I talked about the movie shots and angles that were present in Teen Beach Movie!! This week we learned about mood boards and their importance for creating projects.
Here's the one I created for Teen Beach Movie :D
Mood boards are a collage of images that inspire you with whatever ideas you may want to create. They convey emotions and set the overall tone for your project. In the film industry, mood boards are typically made before the actual film. However, I made this mood board after watching the movie since I was not the creator of the movie, of course.
Teen Beach Movie is heavily inspired by 1960s beach movies, especially when it comes to fashion. The bikers in the film wore mostly red, black, and leather jackets. The guys wore jeans and plain T-shirts while the girls wore leather pants and tighter tops. Their clothing choices evoke feelings of confidence and authority throughout the film. I made sure to include a few photos that focused on this wardrobe in my mood board. Additionally, the surfers typically wore shorts, button-ups, and bathing suits. Their clothing evokes a more friendly and relaxed mood throughout the movie. I also made sure to include pictures that reflected this wardrobe. The scenery in the film was also inspired by the 1960s, with sets designed to look like how beach bar hangouts looked during that period. I included photos of tiki bars that had the same colorful and littoral atmosphere as the ones seen in Teen Beach Movie.
Now, as implied by the name, majority of Teen Beach Movie is filmed on the beach. Additionally, a huge aspect of the movie that actually drives the plot is surfing. Filming on the beach evokes a summery mood that is felt throughout the entire movie. Hence, my mood board has a few photos of beaches, surfboards, and surfing to reflect this. Lastly, Teen Beach Movie is in fact a musical with lots of singing and dancing. The exciting and upbeat music helps to evoke emotions of happiness, while the slower songs express love and hope. With this in mind, I made sure to add a photo that highlights these ideas.
Overall, I think my mood board captures the fun, summery, retro feel that is projected throughout the film and it was super fun and exciting to make!!!
