Hey guys!!
So, today I will be talking about our day 1 filming experience!!
My group and I arranged to meet up on January 4th at around 4:30 pm. We needed to film in the evening so we wanted to film around the time when it started to get dark. We all ended up arriving at Christy's house around 5:00 pm. Zadie's mom picked me up from my house and I rode with Zadie to Christy's. We arrived already dressed and in costume. The first thing we did was go over all of the plans we made prior and organize as much as we could to make sure that everything went smoothly. This was before we decided to make any changes that I talked about in my last blog, so when going over the storyboard, we felt that it would be best to have another person be the server instead of one of us. We also ended up getting some help with filming! We called one of our friends, Kayla, to come and help us with this. Next, while we waited for Kayla to arrive, we began setting up the table and our props and transferring some videos off of Christy's new camera to make space on it. We used Christmas decorations, dinner plates, and utensils that Christy had at her house to set the table.
However, as Kayla arrived and we finished setting out our props, we realized just how unprepared we were. A huge part of our film opener is the actual food and unfortunately, we didn't have any of that. We tried to improvise by filling up the table with snacks that Christy had at her house like granola bars and croissants. We didn't want to waste the snacks so we essentially decided not to open them or eat them. The food that we used on the plates and in the actual shots were Christmas ornaments that looked like food... It was bad. We definitely could have come up with a better solution to this issue but I think we just continued to film because we all knew that we were going to for sure refilm. As for the shots we planned to film on the storyboard, we followed those for the most part but there were a few shots that we decided to change and add in the moment. For instance, we decided to add a separate fight scene that included the three other supporting characters. We also changed the way the main character in the film got poisoned by making her switch plates. Additionally, we filmed a lot of the same shots more than once to make sure that we got the best one we could. There were a lot of times during filming when we had to start over because we kept giggling.
The entire filming process took about 3 hours, as we officially started filming from around 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. As for video and sound, the quality was really nice and the sound was pretty clear since we made sure it was as quiet as possible when we filmed. When we finished filming, we discussed what we could have done better and the changes we would make when we refilm. We definitely need to do some reshoots and plan to do it this Saturday, January 19. We planned it a lot better this time and each of us will contribute to getting the food props. We also went over the storyboard and decided to make any changes we had before the reshooting day so that we could just follow the storyboard to make things less chaotic.
Overall, our first day of shooting helped us get an idea of what we wanted to keep and change. It helped us to learn from our mistakes and taught us that good planning is essential. We really want to make sure that we are putting maximum effort into this project so we will shoot as many times as it takes. We can't wait to see our improvement and progress in the reshoot!!!
