Hey guys!!
So, my group and I discussed costuming for our opener.
Costuming is very important in film, as it is an aspect that can help the audience have a better understanding and gain ideas about each character and and the film as a whole. Costuming can also help to set the mood and give additional details that add to the film. Our movie opener takes place during an extravagant Christmas dinner. We agreed that it would be most appropriate for our costumes to be formal but also casual since it is dinner at home. Additionally, we wanted our outfits to be festive to ensure that we really gave off that holiday/Christmas feeling. Nothing too over-the-top like huge sparkly dresses, but maybe some jeans dressed up with a nice shirt or sweater. A cute skirt with a sweater and sneakers could also be an option. Keeping this in mind gave us each an idea of what pieces and accessories to choose and wear when filming.
Each of us chose our own outfits, accessories, and hairstyles that we felt would complement us, as well as the film the best. This made it easier for us to choose what to wear and gave us more options and flexibility. For my outfit, I chose to wear some dark blue, wide-leg jeans dressed up with a fitted burgundy long-sleeve top. I felt that the darker colors really complimented each other as well as my skin tone. For accessories, I chose to wear a dainty, gold necklace with a cross on it and matching gold hoop earrings. Something simple and elegant that would bring the outfit together. For my hair, I also wanted to do an elegant style that would stay out of my face. I settled for a sleek, low bun with a middle part. Zadie's outfit included medium-washed, blue flared jeans, paired with a navy blue babydoll cami top with white flowers. She also wore blue Converse and had her hair down. For accessories, she wore dainty gold hoops and a gold pearl bracelet. Next, Tiffany's outfit included dark grey, washed wide-leg jeans. She paired them with a plain black top and dressed up the outfit with a blue and white argyle patterned cardigan. She also wore her hair down with a Santa hat and black and white Nike Dunks for shoes. Lastly, Christy wore light-washed, straight-leg jeans, paired with a fun and festive ugly Christmas sweater. She also wore her hair down and accessorized her outfit with dainty hoop earrings.
Here is a picture of our outfits:
Moreover, we each did our own makeup. None of us really go all out when it comes to makeup so we all had a look that was simple and natural, complementing our facial features. Overall, I think our costumes really associate well with our film idea. Our looks were formal enough for dinner but casual and comfortable enough for a home setting while also being festive. Having comfortable enough costumes also made the filming process much easier and more fun.
Stay tuned for more ;)
